Primary Schools

The Shakespeare Schools Festival has wide-ranging educational ambitions, from the personal development of each student to creative learning opportunities for a whole school.

All the resources provided on this site are aimed at challenging, supporting and inspiring teachers on and off the stage. It is up to each primary school to decide how it wants to adapt the SSF programme to its own culture, curriculum and personnel. We strongly encourage schools to use this opportunity as a means for broadening learning and enjoyment – and not necessarily just for those directly participating in the production.

A school might choose to have one class as ‘the cast’, another as ‘the production company’ and a third as ‘the audience’, demonstrating that pupils can engage with Shakespeare as actors, backstage and marketing crew or viewers and critics.

For access to scripts and practical advice about directing, see the Production Resources Menu on the left hand side of the page.

For suggestions about maximising this opportunity for learning, see the Learning Resources Menu at the bottom of the page.
