About Us

The Shakespeare Schools Festival (SSF) charity is the largest youth drama festival in the UK. Since its inception in 2000, with 8 schools, it has worked with 4,242 teacher directors to enable 90,000 young people to unlock their potential on the stage. We are partnered, for the second time this year, with the National Theatre and the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain.
The 2008 Shakespeare Youth Festival for youth directors aged 16-18yrs, was so successful that it has now been incorporated into the main Festival. Our growing international programme now includes cultural exchange between 50 plus participating countries and the UK Festival schools.
